Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 9th and 10th grade young adults who are mostly students of color with a variety of abilities. My students are preparing for the future; that looks different for every student. Overall, we are a college prep charter, so the rigor is high and the teachers expect students to perform.

All of my students are full inclusion; this means they spend all day in the General Education classroom!

Most of my students struggle to access some of the texts unless the material is chunked, has larger font, or has pictures. Being in the General Education setting is their Least Restrictive Environment given the appropriate supports.

My Project

As high school schedules are becoming more flexible and learning is becoming more individualized, the Learning Center needs to progress that way to meet the various needs of all students. The library needs some seating that is both flexible and durable to meet all those needs.

The Learning Center helps all students, not only those with Learning differences.

I want the LC to be a place where students can come to relax and get some work done. The LC is open every day after school, the students have been in hard chairs all day and they want to spread out while they do their homework. We are connected to the library, so I would love for students to grab a book and come to the LC for some quiet time, or to research for a paper. The LC is for everyone.

The seating options I selected are well made and will be able to withstand a lot of movement. The chairs and ottomans will allow students to group them together for collaboration or even find their own nook and study quietly.
