Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a diverse, Title I school in Phoenix, AZ. Many of my students come to school without the basic supplies needed to complete work though out the day. The parents of my students work hard to provide for their children, but many of them fall short financially after taking care of the bare necessities. I do everything in my power to provide what I can for my class.
Every day in my classroom is a chance for students to productively struggle and break free from their comfort zone, which is necessary for them to achieve growth and accomplish things they could never have imagined possible.
Watching this process occur reminds me why I became a teacher.
My students live and breathe data. They pre-test, post-test and everything in between. As a teacher, I work to help each student achieve their personal goals, both academically and at home, measuring their progress every step of the way.
My incredible group of students practice "Kids at Hope," a philosophy that promotes the idea that each student is capable of learning and achieving great things. With the proper tool and supplies, I know my class can exemplify that philosophy.
My Project
This project will help provide my students with several different tools in order to ensure their success. I've also asked for a couple lap desks and seats for the floor. Some of my colleagues have started using flexible seating in their rooms and have seen a great amount of success. I hope by providing students with lap desks and padded chairs for the floor, they will be inspired to learn, while comfortably sitting.
These tools that I've requested will have a huge impact in my classroom and my students will be so grateful.
Through the generosity of donors, I hope to help my students reach their full potential and give them the tools for success.
