I have a classroom full of wonderful 4th and 5th graders. I have 14 fourth grader and 14 fifth graders. Our class is a wonderfully diverse group of students. They range from all different backgrounds and experiences. They are a fun and highly engaged group. They are supportive of each other and always willing to help those around them. They put everything they've got into everything they do.
Each child in my class enjoys learning and being creative.
After spending one week together, they made class totem pole. They described themselves as: hardworking, smart, creative, athletic and responsible. Using these words and chose an animal to represent them. Then they worked together to construct a ten foot tall totem pole. They did a wonderful job but if I could add one more word to describe them, it could be: kind
My Project
If you have been to an elementary classroom lately, you will notice one thing has changed in recent years: flexible seating. My grant is for wobble stools and portable laptop "chairs".
Flexible seating in classrooms is gaining more and more momentum and I want my students to experience all the advantages that comes with it.
Wobble stools are a great way to incorporate flexible seating. They not only provide choices for the student but they allow the student to be physically active while doing their work. Wobble stools are also a great way to include classroom collaboration as students can assemble partners or groups much more quickly than traditional seating. The last reason that these stools are so necessary in a classroom, is because they provide the students with another opportunity to be comfortable. With this higher comfort level, students would be more relaxed and able to concentrate on their learning.
Students love to sit on the floor when given the chance, and the portable laptop tables are a great way for them to work effectively. These easy to use lap desk tables will support their computer or give them a solid surface to work on.
