Flexible Seating

Help me give my students flexible seating options. They currently have limited choices in seating. My students learn best when they are able to move.

My Students

I am an inclusion teacher for 8th grade students in a community that is growing quickly. I co-teach in three of the four CORE classes each day, in addition to running an advisory, Basic ELA class, Reading/Writing intervention, and Academy time with my caseload students.

Most of the students I serve are an active group and require extra support academically and/or socially.

I aim to make my classroom fun, engaging, and comfortable so they look forward to coming to my room ready to learn.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable and have the ability to move are essential components in motivating and keeping them engaged.

Students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of seating.

We currently have regular hard plastic chairs, a wobble chair donated by the principal and an old teacher computer chair. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.

I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
