My Students
My class is made up of 9 awesome individual kids. I am the teacher to the grades 3-5 Life Skills class in Springfield, IL. My students' disabilities range from autism to intellectual disabilities to cerebral palsy and more. Even though my students are between the ages of 7 and 12, cognitively and developmentally the ages range from 12-18 months and 6 years old. We not only work on academic skills, we also learn about functional life skills, social/emotional skills, hygiene, communication and more. We love our brain breaks and free play time, as much as we love learning. Any donation that is made will be greatly appreciated and put to great use.
My Project
All of my students benefit from sensory breaks and diets. The flexible seating is a key component in learning for them. Engaging their core while sitting on the space balance ball and wobbly cushions will help with balance and concentration. The wobble chairs will be relaxing in the sensory area when children visit throughout the day.
The seats will be used throughout the room in learning centers, but also in the sensory area of the room.
Being able to sit in different seating throughout the day will help meet the sensory needs of all the students in my classroom. I currently have 9 students in my room - all with special needs academically, physically and social and emotionally.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
