This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The 4th grade students in my class come from various cultural backgrounds. They embrace each others differences and look forward to learning about each other. We are in a school where classes are departmentalized, so they have one teacher for math, another for science and social studies and also a teacher for reading and writing.
Every student is different from ESE, to ESOL to Gifted.
They work and learn together to make a true diverse classroom. They come to school and learn the curriculum, core values and how to be their very best!
My Project
Sitting still at a desk quietly and working on assignments is how kids are expected to be at school. In my 13 years of teaching different grades and levels of students, I have realized that when ALL students are given the choice to move around the room or choose their spot to complete their work wether individually or in a group, they become more engaged, focused and excited to learn.
During my instructional time, I use centers and rotations to allow students to move around and complete various instructional activities.
I would love to give them a greater variety of seating so they are truly emerged in their learning. Options such as wobble chairs, balance balls, cushions - etc. allow students the choice to work where they are most comfortable. Flexible seating has been used by teachers world wide and proven to enhance learning for ALL students. Research has shown many benefits to flexible seating.
Six benefits of flexible seating are:
1) CHOICE- where they sit and work
2) MOVEMENT- students get up and moving
3) COMMUNITY- encourages students to share space and supplies with others in their class
4) COMFORT- items used are more comfortable than regular chairs; when children are uncomfortable they aren't focused
5) COLLABORATION-allows students to work with others
6) SENSORY INPUT-stimulates students sense of touch, helps students focus, process information, and is especially beneficial for students with ADD, ADHD, and ASD and also the Gifted students
Please help me give my students an education that they will carry with them a lifetime! Help make school a place they want to come to and learn all they can. Impacting our students is creating a better future for all of us!
I thank you in advance for being part of this amazing journey in building lifetime learners!
