it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“Students who are loved at home, come to school to learn. Students who aren’t, come to school to be loved.”
This quote deeply resonates in my 3rd grade classroom consisting of 24 students ages 8-10.
For these kids, school is their safe place. It is happy, it is loving, and it is stability in their life that they so desperately want and need. School is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There is breakfast and lunch waiting for them each and everyday. They are truly happy and grateful to come to school each and everyday.
I want to do everything I can as their teacher to expose them to as many learning experiences as possible to further extend their love of learning. This includes a classroom that has the tools to get them where they need to be. They are a remarkable group of students that I have the honor of teaching.
My Project
Having different flexible seating options in the classroom will allow my students to enjoy reading and learning in an environment that is best for them, whether it be one of the wobble stools at the carpet, or one of the cushions at their own desks. Many of my students need flexible seating options and unfortunately that is not something we currently have available. This will greatly help them to remain focused and engaged in a lesson that I am teaching while they are at the carpet. During independent reading time, they can take a chair and move to a spot in the room that is quiet and free of distraction. Additionally, the flexible seating options would be absolutely wonderful for my students that tend to move around a lot and need this type of support. As a first year teacher, I am doing my best to provide an optimal learning experience for my students. Each of my students' learning needs are different and they deserve a classroom that fosters their uniqueness!
