Flexible Seating With Lap Desks

My students need portable lap desks to create a workspace anywhere in the classroom.

My Students

Every day students enter my classroom with a desire to learn and grow. They are curious about the world and each other. My science students explore the world through scientific inquiry, and engineering to develop an understanding of how things work and begin to creatively design their own solution to everyday problems. My AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students work diligently to learn skills and strategies that will help them become college and career ready.

Many of my students come from different cultures with more than 26 different native languages spoken at home in our school.

I also have ELL (English Language Learners) and special education students integrated into all of my classes. Every day I work hard at differentiating my instruction to meet the needs of all of these students.

My Project

Every day students in my class look to work in spaces that work best for them, which is usually not sitting in a chair at a table. They want to be in a comfortable space where they can work collaboratively. This usually means sitting on the floor, which can be a challenge when they have to work on their Chromebook or in their notebook, or often times both.

With individual lap desks, my students would be able to work anywhere in the room with their Chromebook and notes in a comfortable, collaborative space.

Flexible seating would not only allow for better collaboration, but my students would also feel empowered to make smart decisions about how they work best.

My students also have collaborative group discussions often. Right now they are having to balance everything in their lap, which often means students are not actively engaged in the discussion as they fumble through their papers. The lap desks would be a game changer as they can be used at their chairs so that students can still have their Chromebook and resources out and ready to participate.
