My Students
My students thrive on challenges. They learn best with hands-on activities that incorporate 21st century skills including collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity. They enjoy moving around the classroom, studying with friends, discussing their solutions to problems, and sharing their ideas with one another. STEM Challenges are especially motivating and engaging for them. My students learn best when they work collaboratively with one another and tackle a task that requires them to use their ingenuity.
My third graders are a truly amazing group of learners who work together well, enjoy challenges, love to learn, and learn best by activities that are not just paper and pencil tasks.
The school has approximately 415 students in a suburban area with a percentage of students who travel to the school from an inner city area which makes a culturally diverse population of learners. My students need to see connections in their learning to the real world. They also need to be active to learn and have opportunities to include their own voice in their learning. They are a fun group to teach, and I love them to pieces!
My Project
My students are active learners who need ways to focus their energy while they learn. These flexible seating cubbie storage benches will allow students to move to areas away from their traditional desks while they are engaged in complex tasks. The storage benches serve a dual purpose to store STEM building and game materials and allow for student movement around the classroom.
When students are comfortable in their learning environment, they can be active minds-on learners.
These cubbie storage benches will help my students to focus while they work on various STEM challenges, write essays, and read daily. Not all students learn best sitting in stationary chairs, so the addition of these benches in my classroom will allow choices for my students who need to move throughout the day.
Flexible seating is a growing trend that helps students to be calm and focused in the classroom. I currently do not have any flexible seating options in my classroom, so these benches will make a huge difference in how my students will be able to focus and learn.
