This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 25 of the most enjoyable students I have ever had the pleasure of teaching in all my years of teaching. They come to school with a willingness and eagerness to learn new things.
The majority of my 25 come from very difficult and unstable home lives.
They live with only one parent and often times don't even know the other parent. Many of their parents work multiple jobs just so their child can come to our school and get a quality education.
I am looping with the same students I had last year. I want to give them a totally new experience with me this year.
These students struggle and are often one to two grade levels below their peers. Any added help I can give them will improve their chances of getting out of the difficult living conditions many of them currently deal with.
My Project
The flexible seating would be used as a reward. It would allow the students to strive for something different from their classmates without, while still doing what their classmates were doing. I feel I will get more initiative from my students, who I have had for my second year now, because everyone will want to sit on something new. They're very competitive so I feel this will foster good competition between girls and boys, in an even way. Often girls have a competitive disadvantage but this way they are all on equal footing. This will allow me to spread out some of my desks and put them all over the room in a less structured setting.
