This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom come from differing backgrounds, but all of them bring a unique personality to our community of learners. My students come from low-income/high poverty homes and with that comes different challenges. As their teacher it is my duty to provide the safest and warmest environment for them to have their best opportunity for learning. My students need me to be more than just their teacher. Sometimes I'm a nurse, counselor, friend, mom, or superhero, and with that I strive to help my students in any way possible.

My Project

There have been a multitude of educational articles in using flexible seating in the classroom. Think about a time when you were in a classroom whether it be in college, at a work training, or all the way back to elementary school. You were probably seated in a seat you didn't prefer and you felt uncomfortable. You might have squirmed around trying to find a comfortable position or just sat there very unhappy. Did that affect your learning in any way? It probably did, which is why I would like to incorporate different kinds of seating options for my children to use while they are learning. I have also included seating aids for those who need a little bit more sensory input to be able to fully concentrate. Some options I have included for purchase in my project are inflatable chairs, lap desks for sitting or laying on the floor, yoga balls, and wobble stools

Research shows that flexible seating can help students burn more calories, use up excess energy, improve metabolism, increase engagement and motivation, and improve core strength and overall posture.

With all of that combined means students are more involved and active in their learning, which in turns helps students have better behavior and a better community environment in the classroom. By giving students the opportunity to choose flexible seating optimizes the classroom to be more conducive to collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity.
