Students spend hours sitting in the classroom, and the quality of their chairs can deeply affect their learning. This makes it very challenging for a distracted, fidgety student who is uncomfortable in his seat to produce quality work.
Having a comfy place to read would help improve my students' attention span and build their reading stamina.
In the fall, all New York City schools implemented a new reading program. This requires students to sit on the carpet for read-alouds. During carpet and independent reading time, my students are often uncomfortable and struggle to sit still. Having two comfortable bean bag chairs would improve my classroom in the following ways:
Maintain focus during reading
Create a comfortable reading environment
Recall important information
Improve reading comprehension and reading stamina
Reward students with time in the bean bag chair
Provide a choice of where to sit to read
My students deserve a space that they can call their second home. I want my students to feel comfortable in the classroom. The stopwatches will help improve my students' reading fluency as they continue to read more difficult texts. I am certain that your contribution would have a strong impact on developing good reading habits so that my students can become successful, lifelong readers.
