My kids don't know beyond our small town, there is a big world out there filled with opportunity and promise. I teach at a school with one of the highest rates of free and reduced-price lunches in the state. On a daily basis, I am trying to teach kids, while also addressing some of the most basic social, emotional, and nutritional needs that you would expect the home to be meeting. I love the kids I teach. I feel that I make a real difference in their lives.
My Project
My students love to work collaboratively. They don’t want to be stuck at their desks. They want the chance to be comfortable and work together. If they have the option, they will work together some place in the room. They don’t want to be stuck at their desks. Two years ago my dad and I built flexible seating options for my 3rd graders. They are worn out and I need new, flexible seating for my kids this year. Being comfortable in school and having an option of where you sit can make a world of difference. My classroom needs to feel like a place you can come into and do your best work. This is where they spend 6 hours of their day. I can't expect them to sit on a hard chair for that long and do their best work.
My 3rd graders deserve seating in our classroom that lends itself to easy communication, collaboration and helps with critical thinking.
My kids also love to sit on the rug and read or do math games. They would use their wobble chairs everyday. These would help kids who need movement throughout the day. The floor cushions help when we do projects on the floor and the kids want a comfortable place to sit. We would appreciate your donation to our classroom's flexible seating options.
