My Students
Our students from Orange, MA are part of a co-teaching classroom within an innovation school. This model allows students of all abilities to participate in the curriculum with grade level peers on a daily basis. They come to us from various environments and backgrounds and are excited to learn together each day!
Despite the diverse cultures and socioeconomic status of each of our 21 students, they arrive to school every morning with a smile on their face - eager to learn!
These children are passionate, creative and hard working! When challenges arise, they never give up and continuously strive to find success. They love being able to move around the classroom to find just the right place where they can learn to their highest potential!
My Project
Do you like to sit in one spot all day long? No? Neither do our sixth grade students! In our classroom we like to offer multiple types of seating arrangements so the boys and girls can make independent choices everyday. At the moment, students are able to pick from these options: stools, yoga balls, low crate seats, regular chairs, rocking chairs or stadium seats for floor sitting. Our goal is for students to become invested in the topics we teach them. To help achieve that goal, students are encouraged to try out new areas in the room to determine which arrangement is just the right fit. When students are comfortable, they tend to pay more attention and are motivated to try their hardest.
The products that we have chosen will revamp our seating choices for all of our students.
The wobble chairs are a popular choice so children can wiggle appropriately while accessing the curriculum. Bungee chairs provide support while offering a small amount of bounce for those students who don't like to sit still. The new office chairs will let students sit in a regular sitting position and also slide from table to table for centers.
We have seen the positive effects of flexible seating throughout the past few years with all of our students. These additional items will only progress them further! This is our classroom's second project of the year because they loved all of our new additions the first time around!
