My Students
I teach amazing 4th graders in a public school located in Indianapolis, IN. My students come from backgrounds of varying needs emotionally and intellectually, and they LOVE to learn.
My students are problem solvers, creative thinkers, and have strong voices that make a difference.
I am looking for that extra push to increase student stamina by providing each student with an option for flexible seating to push them to problem solve and think critically throughout the entire day.
My Project
Gone are the days in school where students are forced to sit quietly for hours. We now know that children are not one size fits all. They each have their own specific needs and flexible seating is one way to allow students to manipulate their own physical environment in a way that they feel allows them to learn the best.
My students work best when they are given the opportunity to be engaged in a way they feel comfortable.
My classroom of 25 students are currently forced to share only five flexible seating options. This results in only five students assigned to the seating options one day a week. All students may use them, but the five of the day have the priority. On many days of the week, all of my students have used the flexible seating option at some point during the day. The currently supply of seating options drastically does not meet the demand.
