My Project

I am a third-grade teacher with a classroom full of young scholars. I have 22 students, each with a unique style of learning. Their academic abilities, strengths, and weaknesses range from one extreme to the other. What all of these students have in common though, is the love of the flexible seating options in the classroom.

Going through the public school system with ADHD myself, I found it challenging to always stay in one spot throughout the day to complete the majority of my learning.

When I became a teacher I always made sure to try to provide my students with flexible seating options as well as different styles of learning that incorporate a lot of movement throughout the day. I start the year off by talking to my students about "just right" learning spaces and encourage them to choose spaces in the room that are best for their learning.

When I first began teaching, just having one or two flexible seating options was enough. These days are significantly different. Each year, the number of students diagnosed with ADHD in my class continues to grow. I have received such great feedback from parents and guardians about the flexible learning style I provide in my classroom.

I can see a noticeable difference each day with my students when they are allowed to move around the room and work in a space that is comfortable and just right for them. Unfortunately, a lot of the options I have in place currently are homemade, old, breaking, and in need of being thrown out. With this project, I will be able to provide my students with flexible seating options to help them reach their maximum potential!
