This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is an elementary school that serves students from kindergarten to 5th grade. We are located in the middle of a diverse and dense urban population in Los Angeles, California. My students love learning and get excited about learning daily.
We are a Title I school that serves low-income families from different cultural backgrounds and diverse needs.
Some of our students needs include their excitably and need for focus during extended periods of learning. Innovative tools and ideas are always welcomed to maximize student learning.
My Project
Education and learning environments are constantly evolving. That growth and change derives from the need to make the classroom an optical learning environment for all children. Sitting all day for extended hours isn't easy for anyone especially for children who have enormous amounts of energy. Student achievement is the ultimate goal in my classroom and I'm always looking for ways to maximize my students' learning by differentiating for individual needs.
Flexible seating allows children to release their energy, release anxiety, to move and ultimately helps them focus.
I've tried it in my classroom and it works. It has worked so well that it is time to replace some of the kick bands and cushions due to ware and tare. This time we're adding a wobble stool for that special student that may need a little bit more. My students are great about rotating and sharing the flexible tools we currently have. These additional tools will replace some resources and add more options for more students to have choices.
