Help me give my students choice in where they work. Flexible seating allows students to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class. Many flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is the second home for 12 amazing second and third graders! I teach special education and have the privilege of interacting with these 12 different personalities every day! Teaching special education is truly a dream come true for me. I learn and grow right alongside of my students. It is so rewarding when goals are met, and relationships of trust are built. I will never take this responsibility for granted. I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students choice in their classroom and learning environment. Studies have shown that by keeping our bodies active there is enhanced mental clarity due to the increased blood flow to the brain. It also allows them to learn about their personal space and awareness of their environment. My students are very active in the classroom, and we are in need of some new flexible seating options. Adding these new balance ball chairs will help some students that fidget focus better. Chairs will be able to be used at desks, tables, and in small groups. My students would benefit from having a place to sit where they can get their energy out while still sitting and being attentive.
