This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in East New York. My students are special needs students with various disabilities. They all come from a very low socioeconomic background. My students face many challenges that they have to overcome on a daily basis. Regardless of their hardships, they always walk in the door with a big smile on their faces and look forward to various learning opportunities.
My students would love to have flexible seating options available to them that will help them succeed and meet their individual needs.
They often get fidgety and restless. A comfortable learning environment would enable them to be more engaged and ensure learning throughout the school day.
My Project
My classroom is full of very energetic second graders. They love to move around and explore new things every day. I try to provide them with as many movement opportunities as possible. After all, who likes to sit still? I also like to empower my students to have a choice in everything they do. My students need to have a variety of tables available such as round tables, a rectangular table and triangular tables to give them choice in their seating options.
By donating to our project, you will help the learning environment of my students by providing them with flexible seating.
My students wish to have seating options that are fun and comfortable. They struggle with being engaged while sitting at the same desk all day long. There are studies that have proven that students work better when they are comfortable and physically active.
Since all my students have different learning styles and needs this project will help meet all their various needs. They will have the choice to sit at a table that works for them. They will be able to work on the round table for small group work. The rectangular table will be lowered and mats will be available for them to sit on. This gives them the choice of not sitting on an assigned chair. The triangular table will help the students that need to work alone. By donating to this project you will help transform my classroom from a "typical" classroom to a classroom that's "fun" and feels like home.
