My students need seating choices to set themselves up for success. These materials will help me make some of the seating choices.

My Students

My students have a variety of learning styles and abilities. Most would be more comfortable in different seating options. If they are comfortable, they are more likely to be successful. If students have seating options, it will help them set themselves up for success because they will have ownership of classroom decisions.

Each one has special attributes that makes him/her a valuable piece of our community.

I have read a lot about flexible seating and would like my student to have the options to make that choice.

Although most would think that the "active" students need this, I have seen the calm kids benefit from these options. Last year, a colleague wrote a grant and let me use some of the buddy bands, they are a thick band that goes across the front of the desk. They allow students to bounce his/her feet. Sometimes, students looked like they were pedaling a bike at full speed.

The all liked that band and I'd like more options.

My Project

I am working on creating a classroom where students have the opportunity to pick a seating option that will help them learn best. Giving the student a choice on seating gives them some ownership of the environment.

These materials will help me give more students more options.

The stability balls would allow them to move in his/her seat while reinforcing core muscles.

The disks will allow them to wiggle in his/her seat as well.

The foam will be used to make cushions for crates and benches.

The clipboards will allow students to be able to move around the room and have a hard surface for writing.

Tennis balls? Yes, those will go on the bottom of the tables. I will take the legs off of some our school table and place the balls under the legs. The tennis balls will help to move the tables without gouging the floor.
