I have a classroom full of over several periods of thirty-three inquisitive, creative, and active sixth graders who are adapting to a 'new' way of school with a love of learning. This has created a need to develop their foundational learning skills, as well as advance their development in problem-solving skills while flourishing their intellectual understanding and processing.
My classroom is made up of diverse learners from a wide range of backgrounds.
Some of my students are English Language Learners (ELLs), some of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and some have special learning needs. All of my students need to be actively engaged in their learning and need a program that can enhance their learning that can help meet the needs of these diverse learners. Children need to be able to not only move their bodies to get their brain-firing neurons for reading, analyzing various texts, understanding social studies, while developing their written word; but children need various opportunities to express and learn these key important factors.
My Project
All of my students need to be actively engaged in their learning and need a classroom that can meet the needs of these diverse learners. Children need to be able to move their bodies to get their brain-firing neurons for reading, math, science, social studies, writing, and art. Children also need an environment that is relaxing, and engaging. During independent work times they will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. However, this will start the journey to empower them with the flexibility to work at different tables, sitting or laying on the floor with a different chair. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them to expand their thinking. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
The various seats are adjustable and will allow students to sit, while still being supported. The taller seats will allow for a more informal seating arrangement and allow students who need a change of pace to adhere to their level of comfortability. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! These are all lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
