My Project
I teach title one reading Intervention to grades K-5. Over 80% of our students come from low income household. I have a wide range of student abilities within those grades. I am teaching groups of students at different levels at the same time due to the number of students I serve. My students have disabilities ranging from ADHD/ADD, specific learning disability, dyslexia, andAutism.
My students need skills that will help them be able to problem solve any situation they face and to learn decoding skills.
My students need a learning environment that is inviting and set up in a way to enhance and promote community-building and learning. Using alternative seating is a way to encourage learning in new ways with students being able choose where they sit and what they sit on while learning. Flexible seating has a direct impact on students with disabilities as they have the freedom to move about, wiggle, and learning in a way that is not sitting still in a standard chair.
Students with disabilities learn in different ways and need to have things taught in ways that help them understand and learn material. One of the ways that will help them with their learning is having flexible seating. Not all students learn best sitting in a traditional chair. Students need to have a choice to find what works best for them. They need to move and have the freedom to wiggle when needed. It allows them to change their positions and locations as they learn. They can wobble and rock on these alternative seats.
