The children in my class are all very special, each in their own individual ways. Many of my students are ELL and 53% of them are performing below level. They are from an inner-city neighborhood, with many things going on in their little lives. They have many outside events that distract them throughout the day. They have a lot of energy. Sitting and focusing are just another added factor that interferes with their learning. They are a very diverse group of children with many different needs.
My Project
This project will help my students wiggle safety while they work. Many of my students wiggle and move so much that their chairs flip over or they fall off. These students will be able to wiggle safely and focus more on their work.
Wobble chairs can also strengthen core muscles and the rocking motion can be calming.
There are many children that have great difficulties sitting and are often standing. They just can't sit. These seats will give them a safe way to deal with their energy.
Researchers have found that fidgeting especially for children diagnosed with ADHD may actually help them focus.
