Help me give my students flexible seating such as wobble cushions, wobble chairs, and comfy floor seats. We also need privacy walls to use during testing, a classroom timer, and self-inking teacher stamps to motivate the students.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are such an inspiration and a great example that hard work and perseverance pays off. I had the privilege to team teach as their third-grade teacher last year and this upcoming school year will be extra special because I get to watch them grow and continue to overcome obstacles and reach their goals. Last year, this wonderful group of students came to me with a lot of educational and behavioral challenges, however, we created our own little community and became a family. Although it was my first year as a teacher and it was every bit challenging, we worked extra hard and in the end their passion and commitment to learning shined through, 96% of them passed their STAAR. I am so proud of every single one of them for believing in themselves and for not being afraid of following their dreams! They have shown me that everything is possible and that there are no goals big enough that they cannot reach.
My Project
Flexible seating in our classroom will allow my students the opportunity to choose the type of seating that facilitates and enhances their learning. By being allowed to make a seating choice, they will feel empowered by their ability to take an active part of their education and it will motivate them to work harder. Moreover, flexible seating is a fun way to engage students and it will serve as a motivator for student discipline. Last year, they were allowed to sit on one box crate as a form of flexible seating and they were so excited to use it that they did their best to earn it. In our ELAR and Reading block, we do a routine called “Lotta Lara” which is basically echo, choral, partner read and it requires for them to sit on the floor back to back. Instead of having them sit on the floor, I would like to use flexible seating so students are enjoying a form of seating that enables them to focus on gaining fluency and comprehension.
