Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I will be starting my 10th year as an elementary teacher, and I have had the best experiences! I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades, and this year will be my third year teaching 4th grade. This year, our grade level is taking a new route and will be departmentalized. I will be teaching reading and writing to about 50 students a day. I'm so excited for this new adventure, but, with that, I would love to step up my classroom seating.
Flexible seating would allow my students to have choices to help them feel most comfortable when it comes to working on their assignments.
Whether it is an independent assignment or partner work, I have found that students like to sit in places around the classroom other than at their desks. My students sit at small group tables, on our reading group carpet, or on the floor with a lap desk.
My students tend to be more engaged when they are given the option to work in other spaces around the classroom. Being that I will be focusing this year just on reading and writing with my students, I know that they would greatly benefit and appreciate new flexible seating in our new classroom.
