This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a teacher in a low income/high poverty area, with a 90% Latino/a population. Growing up in this type of environment myself, I know that resources aren't always available or there isn't enough funding.

One of the most important things I've learned in my 15 years of teaching is that CHILDREN NEED TO MOVE!

I'd like to create a classroom with flexible/alternative seating so that my students are able to stay focussed and do the magnificent work I know they can do. This is why I am seeking various forms of alternative seating for my classroom.

My Project

Students learn a lot better when they have a chance to work together. Traditional desks in rows isolate students from each other. Flexible seating allows students to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class.

Instead of the traditional classroom with rows and rows of desks, let's use flexible seating!

Stools, stability balls, bean bags, couches, rockers, plastic bins, you name it. Students love it, and that’s exactly what flexible-seating is about. Happier kids > healthier kids > better engagement > better results. What’s there not to love?!

Facts don’t lie. Physical activity has been proven to improve academic performance. If kids can’t sit still for 8 hours straight, then maybe we shouldn’t expect them to!
