Flexible Seating for Students With Emotional Disorders

My Students
I currently teach in a rural community in south-central Illinois that is 50% free and reduced lunch. I am currently in the process of starting a new classroom for students with Emotional Disturbance and we are in need of some flexible seating arrangements for students.
Flexible seating allows for things to be more individualized to the student and providing them a comfortable environment in which they can learn.
It also allows for student to become more aware of what works for them and disability, and how things can be adapted to help them be more successful.
My Project
Allowing students to have flexible seating within the classroom helps students with emotional disabilities have a place of calming and a place where they can feel they can relax. Often times, if a student can find a place to sit quietly it helps with them speaking to staff, journaling their emotions, or even the ability to self regulate their behaviors.
Flexible seating areas will also allow for more Mindfulness Education to happen within the classroom and will be taught during their social skills class.
This different classroom arrangement takes down the stigma of the walls of school and allows it to become more personalized and comfortable for the students.
This will also be a place were students can chose to read during independent time. Flexible seating can have a multi-use platform and utilized across curriculum areas.
