My classroom consists of four students, all who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Throughout the course of the day, my paraprofessionals and I work to increase independence, generalize skills across multiple settings and enhance communication for wants, needs and interests.

We are always thinking of new ways to help the students and try to meet their sensory and emotional needs. We work to manage behaviors, teach coping skills, and reduce anxiety. The students love sensory play opportunities and rely on various tools to help navigate through their day.
My Project
My classroom is looking to add more flexible seating options for our students with Autism. Due to multiple sensory and environmental needs, my students work best when they are able to move, rock and wiggle - not all students are able to sit at a table in a traditional classroom chair.
Wobble stools will allow the students to focus on their academic and functional tasks rather than feeling anxious to move.
The large bean bag chairs will allow a comfortable space for reading and for giving students a place to calm down they are feeling overwhelmed or anxious.
The large whiteboard easel will be used to facilitate group work, provide larger visuals for academic work and allow students to explore math and reading concepts independently in an engaging way.
