My students need different flexible seating options such as exercise balls, wobble stools, and soft seats so they can choose which learning space works best for them to collaborate, create, and engage in critical thinking.
We are a brand new school in a growing community in Katy, TX! My students are a fun group with lots of energy who love learning and having fun while doing it! They've come together from different backgrounds and schools and are so excited to greet each new day!
We had a crazy start to our year when Hurricane Harvey arrived and flooded our neighborhoods after only a week and a half of school.
We missed 11 days of school in the first month! Many students were displaced due to the storm and its aftermath and all of our lives were affected. Despite the challenging start to our year, my students have weathered the storm and came out on top.
My Project
When I work, I like to get comfortable. My students are the same way. While learning to sit at a desk is important, I want my students to be able to choose the way they want to sit so that they can be better focused on activities during the school day. Some of my students prefer a desk and chair, but some do not.
It’s important to me that my students have a choice in which learning space feels comfortable so that they can maximize their learning opportunities!
I allow my students to move around and be flexible while working; however, I need more seating options for them. I am hoping to add a few different seating options in my classroom, including balance balls, a learning bench, soft spots, and wobble stools. The wobble stools will be a solution for my students who have tons of energy. Those that prefer to stretch out on the floor will have that option as well.
I have eager learners. I can't wait to give them another tool to keep them engaged!
