The students in my third grade classroom are energetic, caring and kind. They always walk into my classroom excited to learn and are always willing to share something exciting that happened to them.
They love to read, love physical activity, and love positive attention.
The students in my class come from various backgrounds. They range from students on free and reduced lunch, ESOL (Spanish speaking), to different situations happening at home. I am hopeful to inspire even my most struggling learners to continue to do and find what works best for them.
My Project
My students are a very active group. Some students like to stand and do their work, others would rather sit on the floor to complete their work and then some like to sit at a traditional desk and work. Typically whenever you go somewhere you get to choose where you sit. Why not let students have the same opportunity?
Flexible seating gives students the choice where they want to sit and makes them motivated to want to learn.
According to Edutopia, research shows "flexible seating includes burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain and improving core strength and overall posture." Physically activity is linked to higher academic performance.
My students are allowed to choose where they sit in my class, but would benefit from different seating options. A stability chair, wobble chairs and bean bag chairs are just a few flexible seating options my students would enjoy. These items can be used anywhere around the classroom throughout the day.
