Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am first grade teacher in a Title I school in Texas. My students come from a variety of backgrounds with different circumstantial upbringings.
I want to make sure that my students, regardless of where they come from - have all of the necessary tools to be successful.
Our school represents a variety of cultural diversity and different walks of life - and we as a staff embrace the diversity in hopes to make an impact in our promising youth's future.
My Project
My students come to school with a smile on their faces ready to learn and take on the day. Just like adults get tired of sitting all day, students do too. Flexible seating in my classroom will allow for student choice and accommodate various learning styles. I plan to use our wobble chairs and lap desks during our small guided math and reading groups to enhance participation as well as help with the natural short attention span that our sweet six years old's naturally have! The seat cushions will be used for student choice as to where to sit during independent reading. Lets face it - no one wants to be forced to read in a hard chair!
Flexible seating in classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and helps them to engage in critical thinking.
I believe this project would significantly help my students by improving student's knowledge, help them be happier and more engaged, and raise the amount of classroom participation. My students will be able to stay focused, become more confident as learners, and be motivated to participate in their daily lessons.
