Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a class full of inquisitive young minds who are eager to learn, regardless of their current circumstances. No matter what my students are facing at home, they come to school every day with a smile on their face and a brain ready to learn.
My students are some of the bravest people I know.
For many of my students, our classroom is the only place where they feel safe, respected, and loved. Our school has a very diverse population; 26% of our students are LEP (limited English proficiency), 6% of our students are homeless or migrant, 98% of our students have applied and qualified for free or reduced lunch, and 53% of our students are minorities.
Every single one of my students is unique and brilliant in their own special way. We are a class full of authors, mathematicians, scientists, readers, and leaders, and I wholeheartedly believe that these kids are going to change the world!
My Project
Think back to elementary school - what was your favorite part about school? If you are like most people, there's a good chance that your favorite part of school was the social aspects? Do you have fond memories of playing with your friends at recess, eating lunch in the cafeteria, or learning together with your peers in the class? This year, teachers are having to come up with creative solutions to allow students to able to make these memories.
With these supplies, I will create an inviting space where students can feel safe and comfortable while still maintaining social distancing.
