My Students

My students are highly motivated youth living in the Alaskan Bush. We live in a remote community of about 85 people that is a three-hour flight from the nearest city (and away from any roads).

Our school serves 22 students from PreK through High School.

They are incredibly motivated and seek out every opportunity possible to learn about the world, but we encounter challenges in getting resources out here. We seek to help them experience new concepts and places by connecting them with the materials they need to learn about the world around them.

My Project

We are looking to bring some flexible seating into our classroom in order to offer students more comfort during learning. Currently, our primary seating option is hard-backed chairs that are uncomfortable for many of our students. Because of this, they often spend much of our lessons trying to get comfortable enough to stay seated. Seating is particularly important where we live in Alaska, because the weather doesn't always make it possible for us to go outside each day, which means we spend a significant amount of time in our seats.
