My Students
I teach at a small neighborhood in Chicago's west side. Nearly half of our students are English language learners and seventy-seven percent of our students are low income.
My thirty one fourth graders are full of energy and love to learn!
They amaze me everyday with their dedication to school and our classroom community. I strive everyday to make our classroom a welcoming and safe environment that encourages my students to take risks and become better learners and global citizens!
My Project
Not every student learns the same way. This includes where they learn. I have students who are most comfortable completing their classwork standing at their desks, laying or sitting on the floor, working at a side table, or sitting at their desks. Additionally, as fourth graders, they have an abundance of energy that makes sitting in a traditional chair difficult.
The yoga balls and low rectangle table will allow my students the flexibility to learn where and how is best for them.
Students can sit on the yoga balls at a taller rectangle table to work while also getting some energy out. The low rectangle table will allow my students, who prefer to sit on the floor, a space larger than a clipboard to complete their assignments.
Currently we have a classroom rug and carpet squares, but that doesn't satisfy the needs of all my kiddos.
