Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 3rd graders have seen a lot in their little lives. They come to school eager and ready to learn. I want to provide them with the tools to foster this. My school is unique in that we are almost 50 percent English Language Learners.
I want my classroom to be a safe, nurturing environment for my students.
My school is also a Title I school- almost 99 percent of my students receive free lunch. Some of my students come from generations of poverty. I want to give my students the resources for a better life.
My Project
The students in my third-grade class like to move! They have a hard time staying still for a lesson. Research has shown that movement helps students learn. I want to do everything I can to help them learn!
By letting my students select their seating and move around while learning, I am giving them more control of their learning.
My students have so little control in their lives this is very important.
The Hooki stool moves and wiggles while students stay seated, without being dangerous and risking falling or breaking seating. The soft floor cushions allow students to cozy up with a good book in their own environment. Providing the wiggle cushion seats allows students to move their bodies in a chair or on the carpet and engage their brains.
