My Students
As a teacher in a Title 1 district, my students come from several diverse backgrounds. Living in a small town with with only one school district means that my student's socioeconomic backgrounds range from very low income to very high income. This makes it a little more challenging to meet everyone's needs.
I use positive reinforcement in my classroom in order to focus on the good things my students are doing.
Although some of my students may be extremely different from one another, they are able to show respect for each other when they enter our room.
I want school to be a place where every student feels safe and equally valued no matter what their life at home may be like.
I always tell my students that we are a family and we have to care for one another. When I see them forming new relationships with peers, doing the right thing in difficult situations, or even just helping a neighbor out on a difficult math problem, it makes me proud to be their teacher.
My Project
Comfort is key when it comes to learning. I am striving to make my classroom a place where students want to be, and where everyone can have a comfortable seat. Students spend most of their time sitting in uncomfortable chairs all day, and I am hoping to change that. Research shows that the more comfortable a student is in their environment, the greater they will perform. I have had the opportunity to experience this first hand through field observations, and I would love to experience it everyday in my own classroom.
With flexible seating options for my students, I am hoping to create a more comfortable and inviting environment.
I want my students to have the opportunity to sit in a comfortable soft seat while completing their assignments. The futon I am asking for will help to make that possible. The large rug will also serve as a gathering place for my whole class during our daily morning meetings as well centers and quiet reading time.
