My Students
Despite not having much, my students come to school with lights in their eyes. For some of them, I know that school is the best part of their day. It's their attitude that keeps me coming back and giving it my all. I teach at a Title I school in a high poverty area of Florida. We are an inclusion classroom that services special education students as well as regular education students and English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Many of the students in my classroom have English as their second language. We are all working together to learn new material while learning English as well!
My Project
By having flexible seating in the classroom students are able to make a choice of which seating arrangement is best for them and their learning. Giving them a choice helps them begin to learn how to make appropriate choices to make them more successful in the classroom. This also helps reduce the amount of behavior problems that can happen in the classroom. Having seating options also helps with engagement. When students have higher engagement, they will be more successful.
Students have different learning styles and needs so their classroom should reflect that.
I want to provide a learning environment that promotes a safe and engaging place for focused learning. Flexible seating helps students choose what works best for them. They can sit, stand, and even wiggle if need be.
By having this outlet to move their bodies, my students will be able to focus more on their classwork and be more successful.
