This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a school psychologist, I work with teachers to eliminate barriers to student learning. Unfortunately, teachers do not always have access to items that would help. I would like to create a collection of items that I can lend out to the 20+ teachers that I work with. These items will be the beginning of this collection.
Flexible seating, including wave seats, footstools and wobble stools, elevates student engagement.
These items help to increase movement within the classroom, which allows students to remain in class learning. Movement increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. The privacy shields can be used to help create an "office" for students to work in an area free from distractions, which helps increase their focus and work completion.
Flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
