Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is home to 26 incredible first graders. Our arts-focused K-8 public school is located in a predominantly low-income and urban community with a large bilingual population, which presents both challenges and opportunities.
My students are incredibly curious, active, quirky, and compassionate, and have diverse interests, backgrounds, and needs.
We spend our days together singing, asking questions, reading, writing, discussing, working with numbers, learning about our world, and striving to make our classroom community more inclusive, supportive, and kind.
My Project
My students have a huge range of needs. The vast majority are either above or below grade level in math, reading, and writing, so I create targeted activities and small group instruction to meet each individual student where they are.
These materials will help me design exciting, engaging, and effective differentiated instruction for my students.
Laminating sleeves, dry erase pockets, and dry erase markers will allow students to work on differentiated activities during learning centers. Zipper pouches will be used as individual book bags for students' just-right books. My students also need different environmental supports to do their best. In addition to the OT tools I received through another Donors Choose project, these wobble stools will expand flexible seating options in our classroom to support students' kinesthetic needs during lessons, group work, and independent practice.
