Flexible Seating for Fidgety Learners

Help me give my students flexible seating options to help them focus less on sitting "correctly" in a chair and more on their learning!

My Students

My students are proactive leaders who volunteer to help around the classroom and enjoy the fruits of their learning. They enjoy reading, hands-on activities, and science investigations. They care deeply for each other, always offering assistance and love to their classmates. They come from a variety of backgrounds and home lives. The majority of my students come from low-income households, and as a Title I school, all my students receive free lunch. School is a safe haven for so many of them, giving them a place to thrive.

My students are hard workers, who love collaboration and teamwork.

They are always encouraging each other, asking for and giving assistance, and working together for ​greater achievement.

My students collaborate through a variety of center-based work: we work in math "workshops," literacy centers, and even STEM stations! This style of learning helps students build their learning through exploration and collaboration.

My Project

Kindergarteners are extremely active learners- and need seating that allows them to focus on their learning, not on their sitting! Flexible seating has been shown to give students autonomy in the classroom, as well as letting them sit in a way that helps them learn best. It gives them choices- and allows them to take responsibility for their learning.

Flexible seating will give my kindergarteners the freedom of choice- to choose a seating option that will give them their best opportunity for learning.

It will allow my students who are more active to get their wiggles out and therefore put more of their focus towards their learning.
