This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a wonderful school in the Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago. My 1st grade students are so special to me because they always come into school every morning with big smiles on their faces and are ready to learn new things, despite the hardships that they may face at home.

Many of my students come from low-income backgrounds, so my goal is to provide a learning environment that allows them to feel safe, joyful, and inclusive everyday at school.

My Project

These flexible seating options would make a huge difference in my classroom because most of the time, my students can not sit in chairs for more than 5 minutes. First grade is a wonderful time for students to engage and explore with each other and their environment, and having these flexible seating options will give them the ability to do so. Also, these flexible seating options will give a sense of security and comfort to those students who may feel anxious or curious in and outside of the classroom. I want my students to feel that they have a say in the ways they choose to learn.
