My Students
My students live in an area where resources are not always available to them. Most of the students I teach have moved to the United States from Haiti in order to have more opportunities.
Every child deserves to have a learning environment where they feel they can be successful, grow as a learner, and reach their full potential.
I am originally from Maine and taught there for 6 years. Last year I moved to Miami and began teaching. While I was in Maine I had used flexible seating to allow my students the best opportunities for learning. Unfortunately, I was unable to bring all of my resources down with me when I moved. I would love to be able to provide the same learning environment to these students that I was able to give to the students in Maine.
My Project
By having these different seating options available to my students, it will allow them to reach their full potential. Not many people like to sit at a desk upright while reading their favorite book. By having these different pieces of furniture within the classroom, students will be able to grab their favorite book, curl up and enjoy their time learning.
Students will be given voice and choice in their learning by deciding which seating option best fit their learning styles.
When teaching lessons I try a multitude of strategies to create a learning environment that reaches all my students. These new seating options would give my students choices during whole group, small group, and independent learning.
