Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a very diverse group of students from various backgrounds! The majority of my students come from low income households. My school is a Title I school. We provide the students with free breakfast and lunch every school day. I also have some students who are newcomers and do not speak English.

My class is an inclusive classroom and will be filled with students with different social and emotional needs and flexible seating will help tremendously with that!

They are such a vibrant group of students who truly enjoy being at school every day. They love being around their classmates, and they truly want to grow and learn. Although they face struggles in their own personal lives, they bring a sense of happiness and joy to the classroom that is indescribable despite what they go through outside of school.

My Project

These materials will provide my students with an opportunity to learn in different ways. Not every student learns best sitting in a desk and chair. Some students need to sit on the floor or on a mat or on a pillow in order to stimulate learning. Sitting on textured cushions on the floor may provide a level of comfort that allows the student to focus on learning and not on how uncomfortable they feel.

Flexible seating provides students with an opportunity to engage in learning without being bound to a desk and chair.

This will especially help my students who struggle socially and emotionally and will provide them an opportunity to engage in a more comfortable setting.

I will be using the disc cushions around a small table to create a unique classroom library setup! I will also be using the stools around my kidney table for small group instruction.

I want to still incorporate tables in my classroom so I will be putting the 4 bouncy balls around one table, and I will be turning the crates into crate stools around my kidney table and will use them to hold my guided reading books as well! I want to give my students options to work without a table is well, which is why I am requesting kneeling cushions and the bean bag chairs. Some of my students with different disabilities will really benefit from these alternative seating options, and my hope is it will provide them a safe and comfortable place to learn.
