Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a diverse, low-income, underfunded school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
100% of my students receive free lunch and many often worry where their next meal come from.
They are children who are saddled with adult responsibilities in their home lives. These factors, along with others, may prevent my students from excelling in their academic careers. From the minute students walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth. I strive to inspire students to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My classroom environment needs to be inviting, and open to collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Sitting in rows of desks does not promote this comfortable learning environment. The world is changing rapidly and our classroom should be evolving alongside it to prepare our students for the future. I need to change the seating in my room so I can change the mindset of my students.
Many of my 6th graders have a difficult time staying focused in a traditional classroom with desks in rows. By creating a comfortable, welcoming environment, I will help students engage more in lessons and retain what they have learned.
We will use flexible seating to structure our learning environment. Our wobble seats and seat cushions will be used as a seating for students with unique learning needs. Together we will welcome all learners to our learning community and set them up for academic success.
