This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our middle school is a Title I school with over 80% of its students having free or reduced-price lunch. Our district made national news headlines due to the immense damage that we incurred during Hurricane Harvey. However, not only was our campus damaged, but also a large number of our students homes also were destroyed. Despite all of the hardship that our students are going through, you would never be able to tell when they come to school. They truly love to learn, and they love their time at school. My students are smart, hard-working, and eager to learn.
My Project
In our AVID classroom, college and career readiness is key. I do my best to bring my students a classroom full of choice so that they are fully engaged in the learning experience. Last year, Hurricane Harvey turned our world upside down. Now, this is a new school year, and I want my students to start the year off right.
I want my students to have access to flexible seating that is attractive and functional.
The bean bag chairs will be for a relaxed reading and study area. The bean bags as flexible seating options will help my students to engage and will work as an incentive. The chair socks will be to put on the bottom of our seats so that our chairs can easily be moved around the room without damaging the chairs or the floors in our classrooms. Being that our classroom is highly collaborative, we are constantly moving our chairs around for different activities. These chair socks will be a huge help.
