My Project

I teach a joyful and diverse group of 1st grade students in an International Baccalaureate (IB) classroom, where curiosity, collaboration, and inquiry drive everything we do. My students are enthusiastic learners who benefit from movement, choice, and a welcoming space that supports their academic and social-emotional growth.

Our classroom is transforming into a flexible learning environment where students can choose how and where they learn best.

Whether it’s a cozy corner for reading, a soft space for partner work, or a stand-up station for brainstorming, each option helps meet students where they are.

This project will help me provide:

• Flexible seating options that support active bodies, attention, and self-regulation

• An easel board to support whole-group instruction, small group mini-lessons, and student-led presentations

The easel board will be a central tool during literacy and math instruction, allowing me to model strategies clearly and giving students a place to share their thinking. It will also serve as a mobile learning station for flexible teaching throughout the room.

In our IB classroom, students are encouraged to be independent thinkers, risk-takers, and communicators. By creating a warm, inviting space with the right tools and furniture, I can give them the freedom to move, the comfort to focus, and the environment to thrive.
