Help me give my students the tools and resources to increase prosocial behaviors and academic achievement through flexible seating and self management of their social emotional behavior.
My school serves enthusiastic, students in grades PreK-8.
However, it can be very difficult for a child to focus in the classroom when they have uncontrollable factors impacting their success.
Students cannot learn effectively if their social-emotional development is not addressed.
No one would have expected a rose to grow from concrete, but my school and students serve as a prime example! Despite my scholars' hardships, they continue to persevere. I strive to be more than their math teacher. I aim to show my students that I not only care about their academic success, but their mental health as well.
My Project
Imagine, as a scholar, having the opportunity to choose your own seat during instruction. Not just ANY seat, however. Options range from a bean bag chair to cushioned seats. The flexible seating allows for a comfortable environment in which you learn best.
It is my goal to increase student empowerment by allowing student choice of seating in their learning environment.
As society changes and evolves, so has learning styles. Flexible seating caters to the individual scholar resulting in greater academic engagement, increased collaboration, and improved social behaviors.
Granting students with flexible seating allows for student choice. While it can be a daunting task, choice results in improved self monitoring skills. Furthermore, classroom management will improve due to students taking responsibility of their learning!
