My Students

Our students learn in a New York City pre-kindergarten through 8th-grade school. They come from very diverse backgrounds. Over a third of them come from low-income households, and some of them are a part of military families. A significant part of our student body are English Language Learners.

Since I know sitting at a table in a regular chair all day is tough for the typical five-year-old, I would like to be able to offer my kindergarten students several options of seating arrangements.

I want my future kindergarten students to feel comfortable in their new classroom. I am looking to transform my space in the hopes of cultivating student engagement.

I am sure my future kindergarten students love to learn! I just want my future kindergarten students to feel comfortable in their new learning environment.

My Project

My future kindergartners deserve the chance to have different seating options available to them. This year in my Kindergarten classroom, I will be implementing The Daily 5, which is designed to teach children to build their stamina and independence in each of the Daily 5 tasks. The Daily 5 tasks are steeped in choice, which increases motivation and student intellectual engagement.

These flexible seating options will make a great impact on my students' learning because they will have a choice to find their most comfortable seat to do their best work.
