Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are middle schoolers with great attitudes, mixed abilities, and many, many opinions about where they want to sit! As a mixed grade and cross categorical class, we have students from 11 to 14, eligibilities from emotional concerns to autism, and interests from mitosis to Greek mythology. We are 13 students and 5 teachers who spend the whole day together, and flexible furniture is key to making that work.
We want to build a collection of movable furniture so that small groups can shift and move based on who needs help, extra time, or just a break from their tablemates!
This will help us shift between classes of 15 students, like math, and classes of 6, like phonics. It will help us meet new partners to work with so we can practice social skills and develop our English. It will help us open our space to present projects and have community circles. It will help us build a classroom that works for our diverse needs and that feels scholarly and serious-- just like us.
