My Project
My project contains a variety of objects that will directly benefit my students, including books, bugs, and seating options. First, I have included a few Choose Your Own Adventure-style titles. These books are a popular educational option for sixth graders because they get to experiment with the consequences of their actions in a low-risk way. By bringing Wonder into my classroom, I am hoping to increase class comradery.
Bugs and brine shrimp will bring the magic of living science right to my classroom.
My wish list includes an ant farm and ants, which will give my students many opportunities to observe a colony of ants in action. I have also included milkweed bugs, which are included in our grade-level science text. Students love watching these insects as they progress through their life cycles. Our curriculum also talks about brine shrimp, so the Sea Monkeys will allow my kids to observe this organism up close.
I have also requested some items that will help with flexible seating options. Rolling stools will provide another seating option, with built-in teaching opportunities regarding safety and following class rules. Finally, the mobile standing desk will allow me to monitor everyone in my class while I teach from my computer. Being able to walk while I teach will increase student engagement and will help me monitor student behavior.
